Dear students:
We have received messages one after another that some seniors have passed the FMGE(Foreign Medical Graduate Examination). All faculty and staff feel thrilled and inspired for what the students have achieved, and a few days ago, we have received a letter from HITAKSHI SINGH which I want to share with you.
There is an old Chinese saying that you can turn a blunt object to sharp by grinding with the stone. You should believe that all diligence and hard work will be paid in return. Here, I would like to share with you my own story. I grew up in an ordinary worker’s family. Since I was a kid, I have firmly believed that only study can change my destiny and to be a doctor has always been my dream. Just as everybody knows, I know perfectly that studying medicine is arduous, but for a man who is ready to fight, he would not step back for challenges and difficulties. When I furthered my study in the USA, just like you, my study was constrained by the language: I could not catch all points made by the teachers, and I could not fully understand the dissertation. Besides, there were plenty of knowledge to take in and lots of experiments to conduct. All these made me so depressed. However, greetings from a bus driver warmed me and touched me deeply. He passed on happiness to me, which turned to my impetus to study harder. Now, I hope I can be your bus driver during your study in China: to show you the direction, give you the warmth and accompany you to roam in the sea of medical knowledge.
Dear students, traveling from afar at a young age to pursue knowledge, you must harbor your own dream, ambition and the expectations from your family. We should all believe that all our efforts will get paid, just like HITAKSHI SINGH. 6 years is just a small part of your life, but it will provide continuous impetus for your future life, equip you with the courage and wisdom you need to face the challenges and difficulties. I sincerely hope you can cherish your study here, work really hard to improve your professional skills, give full play to your expertise and fight for and contribute to the medical and healthcare cause for your home country or even our mankind.
There is another old Chinese saying that only if our hearts stay together, we can overcome all difficulties and setbacks. The love is beyond race and nationality. Some of you are hundreds of miles apart from us, but we try all efforts to overcome inconveniences like time difference to be connected with each other through screens. You are not alone in the process of pursuing your dream. We know your difficulties and feel your feelings. We care about you as usual. Here, I’d like you to cheer for those who have passed the FMGE and make persistent efforts in your study and achieve great accomplishments in your career.
